HDR tutorial

Please join us tonight for a tutorial on high dynamic range (HDR) imaging. Mark Westerman will take us through the process all the way from taking the pictures through the final print.

This is a subject a lot of you have been asking about, so don't miss this opportunity!

Reminder: Program Night on Tuesday the 22nd

Cheryl Lin will be narrating a slideshow of her travels through Asia next Tuesday night. She has donated the book My Travels in Asia to the club for our library. Cheryl will describe how the book came about and what the photos represent.

The second half of Program night will feature a slideshow presentation headed by Clif Grim. Let's call it a "survey" of all the ways to use the web for learning, sharing and marketing our photography, but several members will speak to the topic.

Please send Clif examples (screen shots) of how you present your photos on the web and be prepared to tell us about it during the slideshow.

I think you will enjoy the topics being presented. Mark your calendars and circle the date.

Reminder: Honors night on the 15th

Don't forget, this month's Honors Night is on April 15^th because of the runoff election.

Phase One introduces digital 645 platform

Another bit of news from Engadget tells us that Phase One isn't standing still. They announced recently that they are turning the Mamiya 645AF body into a digital platform. Not many details are available yet other than the fact that it will accept quite a variety of lenses. Having your 645 go digital is just the cure you need for your Polaroid back blues.

Change in meeting dates

The county building will be in use for the runoff election on Tuesday, April 8^th, when we would normally have Honors Night. We will have Honors Night on Tuesday, April 15^th instead. Don't procrastinate on your tax returns, because we want to see you at the meeting!

Stanford researchers cram 12,616 tiny lenses into a 3D camera

Engadget brings us an interesting story about what might be the next big thing in photography. Well, OK, maybe not. But it definitely is interesting and I'm interested to see how this technology will eventually benefit the photographic community. The article starts out:

"With the megapixel race already past the point of noticeable benefit to consumers, it looks like the next camera arms race will be the number of lenses your rig sports"

WPC Turning Point photo shoot April 19

Woodlands Photography Club is pleased to announce our special event Turning Point Photo Shoot at Shadowbend Park on Saturday April 19 from 9 AM to 4 PM

Participation in this photo shoot will be a "Turning Point" in your photo career.
We will have 4-5 photo stations, with models of all ages available, sports and action sets, children and playground set, period costume sets, natural and studio lighting sets.

We have limited room, and we will charge a fee of $50/WPC members and $70/non-WPC members.

Through the experience of raising orchids, Frazier King opens a window into their transformative blossoms, which embody anthropomorphic qualities. The prints in Orchidaceae reveal an intimacy akin to human sensuality.

As a complement to its PHOTOGRAPHY IN CHINA 1934-2008 exhibitions program FOTOFEST2008-CHINA presents a symposium on Chinese Photography in the 20th Century with two of China's leading scholars, GU Zheng and CAI Tao. The 20th century was a century of change and revolution in China that saw it emerge from colonization to superpower through decades of civil war, conquest, political upheaval and economic reform. Photography likewise evolved from a tool distrusted by the oppressed and seen as a tool of exploitation, to a medium for the promotion of ideology and more recently, a vehicle for self expression.

Every stage of modern China's history has been recorded by the country's photographers and those images have in turn influenced the course of history. FOTOFEST2008 invites the public to attend this fascinating symposium to hear China's leading experts talk about this history, the influence of the medium and what is to be expected of photography at the dawn of the 21st century.
